YouTube will likely show users ads whenever they pause a video on the platform. Advertisers liked this way of displaying ads.
Last May, YouTube began testing a new way to display ads. Advertising banners appeared on the screen every time users paused the videos. The day before, Google's commercial director Philip Schindler shared the positive results of this advertising experiment, writes Android Authority.
“In the first quarter, we saw a significant boost from the pilot of ad pausing on connected TVs, a new non-interruptive ad format that appears when users pause their regular content,” Schindler noted.
He stated that such advertising on YouTube “ensures high brand promotion results” and “demands high prices from advertisers”. This could indicate that the company will eventually roll out the feature widely. Schindler did not share the terms when such advertising will begin to appear on YouTube, but it is known that it will first be implemented on smart TVs.
As NV Techno wrote, YouTube stepped up efforts last year to encourage users to allow ads while watching videos or switch to YouTube Premium. Specifically, the platform has started turning off videos for users with an ad-blocking browser extension enabled. This month, it was revealed that users who watch YouTube videos through the ad-blocking mobile app may experience playback issues and error messages.
