A junior developer refused to work because of the requirement to pass a polygraph at the last stage of selection. The people of Aitiv were surprised and even outraged by such a demand.
Junior Front-End Developer Oleksandr Zvirych shared his job search experience. He wrote on LinkedIn that he passed the interview and passed the test task, but after the candidacy was approved, he was forced to refuse.
“The last stage was passing the polygraph,” explained the developer and added that the problem was not only that.
He noted that according to the conditions of the test, it is not possible to drink alcohol or take sedatives for 48 hours before passing the test.
“Due to the recent events and my state of health, I am currently undergoing a course of treatment. But I take a sedative. I tried not to take the drug, it started to get worse. And I realized that after all, health is more important. That's why I gave up the position of Strong Junior Front-end developer,” Oleksandr shared.
The reaction of the people of Aitiv
At the time of publication, the post has collected more than 50 comments with user reactions. We publish some of them.
“The polygraph is completely unprovable, and the companies that use them are very detached from reality and adequacy. And it's clearly a red flag,” wrote UX/UI Designer Yuliya Lakhno.
“Lol, maybe they should undergo a special medical examination and learn the poem by heart. A very strange requirement of the polygraph,” commented Anton Khavaldzhi, a programmer.
“Polygraph? Did you do reconnaissance there? :D” – wrote Level Designer Olga Barvinok.
” The polygraph is such a huge red flag that you're really lucky. Of course, now you think that this was your only chance, but in reality, these companies can be so toxic that they can break the psyche, so you saved yourself. In any case, you will find a job,” wrote Anastasia Kulachenko, a developer.
“If something doesn't suit you, especially if it affects your health, then it's better to refuse. In your case, I would have 100% refused if I only learned about the polygraph at the third stage of the interview. I had a similar case with a time tracker, about the absence of which I was assured at the first stage of the interview, and at the second it turned out that it was still there , “said the tester Anton G.
“There are a lot of articles that prove the ineffectiveness of polygraphs, because everything depends on the subjective perception of the polygraph examiner. And I agree with others… there should be a very serious argument why this is for the company, and a very big question, why is it for you,” commented Iryna G., a recruiter.
