PlayStation 5 sales have reached a new all-time high. Sony has reported that since the release of the console in late 2020, more than 50 million units have been sold.
This indicates a significant increase in sales of PS5, because back in July, Sony reported about 40 million sold consoles. Most likely, this increase in demand is due to increased availability of the PS5 after supply chain issues led to shortages in stores.
The PS5 reached 50 million sales only a week slower than the PS4, but it's still a significant result considering all the limitations it faced.
According to the Financial Times, sales of the PlayStation are up 65% this year to 22.5 million units, outstripping the Switch and Xbox, whose sales are down 18% and 15% respectively. It looks like Sony is on track to hit its goal of selling 25 million consoles in the current fiscal year, which ends in March 2024.
