Launched a few months ago, Threads by Meta continues to grow its audience.
Competitor Meta Twitter/X Threads is growing at a steady pace. Currently, the social network has more than 150 million monthly active users, which is 20 million more than in February, said Mark Zuckerberg during the company's Q1 2024 earnings call, TechCrunch writes.
Since its most recent quarterly earnings report, Threads has notably taken steps to integrate with ActivityPub, a decentralized protocol powered by networks such as Mastodon. In March, the company allowed US users over the age of 18 to connect their accounts to Fediverse so that their posts would appear on other servers.
The company also plans to release its API to a wide range of developers by June, which will allow them to build experiences around the social network. However, it's still unclear whether Threads will allow developers to build full-fledged third-party clients.
As a reminder, the microblogging service from Meta Threads was launched about nine months ago. Unlike X (Twitter), Threads does not offer a space to share and discuss news. In a matter of days, Mark Zuckerberg's social network Threads broke the mark of 100 million users. This happened even faster than in the case of ChatGPT. After that, the social network's popularity declined, but it continues to attract users and add new features.
