They were 15 years late. The Ministry of Digital Affairs of Estonia is afraid to repeat the state's mistake in the smartphone with AI
Even the Action app appeared in 2020, 13 years after the launch of the iPhone
Governments are 15 years late with the implementation of the state in the smartphone. Now it is important not to miss the development of tools based on artificial intelligence. This was stated by the Deputy Minister of Digital Transformation of Estonia, Luukas Ilves.
” To build a personalized state, it is also necessary to update the approach to providing services. This means proactively offering them to users, managing processes well and taking care of good UX. We need to be where our users are, and today that's mobile. Governments are 15 years late with this,” Ilves said in an interview with DOU.
He noted that Ukraine was one of the first countries that really implemented high-quality government services in a smartphone. However, even the “Action” application appeared in 2020, as many as 13 years after the launch of the iPhone.
” All of us (governments of various countries – ed.) are years behind the private sector. In this vein, we are thinking about how not to repeat the same mistakes with AI tools, which today are making a new revolution in user experience,” Ilves emphasized.
He reminded that the Ministries of Digital Transformation of Estonia and Ukraine are currently cooperating in the development of the mRiik application – the Estonian analogue of the Ukrainian “Dia”.
It was tested by users in Estonia in May-June this year. ” And I will say that he works great. The app is installed on my smartphone and does everything it needs to do. But in the context of our government's broader, conceptual vision, it is still a work in progress. So we haven't launched its public version yet,” Ilves said.
