During 2023, Ukrainian security analysts recorded and processed 1,105 cyber incidents, according to the State Intelligence Service. This is 62.5% more than in 2022.
The system used to monitor and analyze cyber threats detected 133 million suspicious events and 148,000 critical incidents. In total, approximately 18 billion events were processed. During the year, 24 new objects from various sectors, including government (22), energy (1) and military (1), were connected to the system for detecting vulnerabilities and responding to cyber incidents and cyber attacks. Among the autonomous systems , which were most often used for attacks were Google, Hurricane, Google-Cloud-Platform, Cloudflarenet, and DigitalOcean-ASN. Cybercriminals most often used malware from the SmokeLoader, Agent Tesla, Snake Keylogger, Remcos, and Formbook families.
At the end of 2023, the largest mobile operator of Ukraine “Kyivstar” experienced a large-scale failure due to a hacker attack. Specialists worked for more than a day to restore the network, and 100% of services were restored in more than a week. A cyber attack on Kyivstar destroyed approximately 40% of the company's infrastructure – the network layer was badly affected.
