German biathlete Benedikt Doll announced that he will retire at the end of the 2023/24 season.
The 33-year-old captain of the German national team spoke about his decision in a video that was published on social networks.
“I love this sport and everything it stands for, but I realize that now I want to devote my energy to new projects and spend more time with my family,” Doll said.

Thus, for Benedict, the March stages in Norway, the USA and Canada will be the last in his career.
The German Biathlon Federation could not help but react to his announcement.
“Benny, we thank you for the many bright, sometimes difficult, but exciting and incredible years spent with you. You are and will remain our captain,” the statement said.
During his career, Doll won six World Championship medals (one gold, three silver, two bronze).. He was also a two-time bronze medalist at the 2018 Olympic Games (pursuit and men's relay).
Over 13 years, the German competed in 313 World Cup races (individual: 19 podiums, six wins; team: 53 medals, 8 wins) . This season he won two gold medals (both in the sprint). He ranks eighth in the overall standings.
