A former Arsenal scout admitted that the club tried to sign Kylian Mbappe back in 2016, writes Metro.
Then Arsene Wenger, Richard Lowe and scout Gilles Grimandi went to the south of France to convince Kylian to move to Arsenal.
However, as Grimandi admits, the timing was unfortunate. The Gunners suffered two defeats in a row and had little to offer the Frenchman.
We tried to convince him, but I don't think it was the right time for us.. The meeting came a day after the league defeat at home to Swansea, which followed the defeat at Old Trafford.
We tried and I think we were not so far from getting Kylian, but he turned us down and signed a new contract with Monaco.
I would say that in 15 years as an Arsenal scout, this is my main disappointment – not being able to convince Mbappe to come to us.
It was also previously reported that the Tottenham legend could go to MLS.
