TikTok, which is struggling to survive in the US, is trying to make the app safer for teens by cleaning up its video recommendations.
TikTok toughens penalties for creators who post potentially problematic content. The platform announced that TikTok will begin fining video creators who repeatedly flout the rules, making their entire account ineligible for recommendations. ( and not just specific offensive publications, as before). The company will also make such accounts less accessible through search.
In addition, TikTok is adding a long list of content that can no longer be recommended in accordance with updated community guidelines that will go into effect in May.. In addition to the obvious categories, such as obscene or violent content, the feed “ For You” will not include topics that were previously a source of controversy. For example, the new guidelines prohibit videos depicting hazardous activities, many types of content about weight loss or dieting. Also, the recommendations will not include any videos of persons under 16 years of age.

In addition, the application will receive a new feature “ Account Status”, which will help users monitor whether they are violating these rules. Similar to the Instagram feature of the same name, this feature will alert creators about posts that violate the rules. This one feature, Account Verification, will allow users to see if they are currently blocked from recommendations.
Recall that last month, a majority of members of the US House of Representatives supported a bill that would prohibit app stores from distributing TikTok unless its Chinese owner renounces the rights to this platform. A vote in the House of Representatives allows the bill to be considered in the Senate. US President Joe Biden has announced his readiness to sign this law. The law will give ByteDance 180 days to sell TikTok.
